Welcome to our farm based brewery, where the ale
is made using ingredients we grow.

Huon Farmhouse Dry Cider                 7.5% alc vol
When we discovered the Griggs family at Lucaston Orchard in the Huon Valley were still growing the famous old English cider variety, Sturmer Pippin that was all the motivation we needed to produce a traditional unfiltered, bottle fermented farmhouse cider made using only apples and yeast.

Poire                                                    7.0% alc vol
Known as ‘Perry’ to the English, we have chosen the word ‘Poire’ in recognition of our preference for French sparkling farmhouse ciders.  Made using pears sourced from Nubeena on the Tasman Peninsula.

A little more about real cider ...

The Two Metre Tall Company is a passionate Tasmanian farmer.  We believe in producing farm grown, unprocessed, unadulterated food of integrity and flavour.  We farm sustainably, using no synthetic inputs and re-use all waste streams where humanly possible. We have created the world's first Real Ale farm - where the ale is made from the ingredients we grow and now we bring Real Cider, with all the magic and flavour direct from the orchards of the Apple Isle to your table.

Our ciders showcase the fruits of the labours of the Griggs family apple orchard at Lucaston in the Huon Valley & the Hanson's pear orchard on the Tasman Pensinsula.  The juicing of pear & cider is done for us by Andrew Griggs in his Lucaston Park Orchards on-farm, juicing facility.

The first brew of Two Metre Tall Huon Farmhouse Dry Real Cider was released in January 2010.  Our 'Poire' followed in October 2010.

Made with tree ripened, farm juiced apples or pears, the only additive is the fermentation yeast and the most sophisticated technology employed in the cellar is gravity.

The result is a triple fermented, bottle conditioned, unpasteurised, unfiltered sparkling cider. Completely dry, the apple beverage is bursting with apple aroma & flavour. The 'Poire' retains a little more fruit sweetness as there are sugars in the pear that will not ferment. The crisp finish and sparkling, not fizzy, palate make each cider a very satisfying aperitif as well as an outstanding table companion, providing exquisite accompaniment to pork, sausages, cheeses - both smooth and strong - and even some desserts, such as the classic Normandy apple fritters.

Hold on to your taste buds, as you may well have to entirely re-write your impressions of cider...

These products are unique in the Australian market place! Most of the big brand commercial ciders are not even made with apples & pears; they are made with concentrates, sugar and all sorts of other (read: cheaper) "food technology" which expediently replaces the real thing.  Those that are made with apples or pears - and there are an increasing number from smaller craft producers well worth trying - will invariably use sulphur dioxides or antioxidants or filtration, all of which modify the flavour profile of the original juice in some way.  Even fewer again are bottle fermented - basically we use a ‘méthode champenoise’ approach - which results in a fine bead and provides a completely natural and very gentle sparkle.

And then there is the apple variety itself.  The Pippin family of apples did not gain their international reputation for flavoursome ciders and juices by accident and the Sturmer is the renowned king of the Pippin family.

This is Real Cider.  And we are not making the Real Cider terminology up, as 100 000 worldwide members of the campaign for Real Ale will attest.  We encourage you to peruse the website http://www.camra.co.uk/ and, in particular, the page http://www.camra.co.uk/page.aspx?o=aboutcider

REAL CIDER
A little note on INGREDIENTS

Our real cider is made from whole fruit juice and yeast.

Many commercially produced ciders are made from fruit concentrate
and have added sugar.  We just use freshly crushed apples & pears.

We use NO sulphur dioxide and NO preservatives.
Our cider is also gluten free.
